I was having an argument with my husband last night. Well, he calls it a discussion, I call it an argument. The reason for this is because I felt intense anger pulsating through my body as I yelled at him across the hall of the house.
Before you jump to conclusions, no, the children were not home. They were staying with their grandparents for the weekend. This is made worse by the fact that I had made a dinner just for us, which my husband then refused to eat. I was left with an entire plate of beef curry all for myself. Well, that’s not entirely bad, but still an important point.
We were again fighting about my husbands hunting. No, not about the gun safe. He already purchased a top gun safe from bestgunsafeinfo.com after months of nagging – finally! If you need to find one, there are some great reviews here.
This time we were fighting because my husband wants to take our youngest son hunting. Now, I have always had a problem with my husbands hunting, but I accepted that this was his hobby and I had no place to change that. I love animals, and ironically my husband does too. But when it comes to our son, I do have a say.
Our son is 3 years old. He is barely able to decide whether he wants to go the toilet or not. I simply do not think he is ready to go hunting. When my husband asked him he said of course he would like to go, but surely he doesn’t know what he is in for.
Maybe the basis for this is our different personalities. Based on the personality test we did recently (you can try it for yourself here) I was a Mediator personality whereas my husband was an Entertainer – perhaps this is the basis of our problems. He just doesn’t understand my point of view, and he doesn’t try to!
I’d love to hear from other parents who have gone through the same thing, whether it’s hunting or simply your partner wanting something different for your child than you. Please tell me how you have handled such issues.
At what age is it appropriate to take a child hunting? I’d love to know.
